Virgin of Guadalupe

Traditional treatment of Guadalupe on a dollar store hankie.

"The Virgin of Guadalupe"--the very famous mythic creation of Mexican belief --is the Patroness of all the Americas. Some pictorial tribute to her is an almost required feature of Day of the Dead celebratory altars.

Dia de los Muertos calavera

Black Elk calavera by tomasito, 2008

Tanya and I are preparing a Dia de los Muertos exhibit as an installation in the lobby glass case at the Public Library in Redding, CA.

The Dia de los Muertos (November 2) follows Dia de Todos Santos and is an important celebration in Mexico and much of the United States.

Our installation will be as colorful as possible--fun and even funny--but also thought provoking and respectful toward the dead.

And a good Memento Mori for all the people of Redding, CA.

Health Report 2

Unflavored Gelatin GOOD

Gelatin seems to be a smart addition to a good diet.

Ligaments and the slippery slidey cartilage covering of bone joints may need extra gelatin to stay in good repair so we are sure to get plenty by eating it as above.

We recommend it.

Health Report

Pure Cod Liver Oil

Calcium, as we know, is an important constituent of bone And without strong bones life is not so enjoyable.

What some of us did NOT know is that without vitamin A and D in our diet--the calcium we ingest will not be useful in the manufacture and repair of our bones.

The best source of vitamin A and D seems to be pure Cod Liver Oil which is available in most drug stores in the USA.

Another substance presently called "fish oil" is also VERY available and is usually displayed alongside the old fashioned Cod Liver Oil--unfortunately, "fish oil" has no vitamin A or D and is simply another merchandising rip off.

Turtle Bay Exploration Park

Papier Mache Class canceled!

My class in papier mache mask making--scheduled for later this month at the Turtle Bay Exploration Park-- has been canceled--not enough eager paperiferous students.

Too bad since it would be a very good experience for all of us.

But so it is--and I am still hard at work making terrific masks and other paper mache objects.

Papier mache is a great artist's medium and I like it more and more!
